Sunita Kejriwal, wife of the incarcerated Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, stepped onto the political stage with a fervent address that condemned the BJP-led central government for allegedly targeting the opposition ahead of the national elections. Speaking at a massive rally in Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, attended by leaders of the Opposition INDIA bloc including Rahul Gandhi, Uddhav Thackeray, Mehbooba Mufti, and Mallikarjun Kharge, Sunita Kejriwal delivered a message from her jailed husband, resonating with hundreds of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters.
Asserting that “the people of India stand with Arvind Kejriwal,” Sunita Kejriwal emphasized that her husband cannot be detained indefinitely, calling on 1.4 billion Indians to contribute towards the nation’s progress. Her words echoed her husband’s message from jail, underscoring a call for unity beyond political affiliations.
In her maiden political speech, Sunita Kejriwal refrained from soliciting votes or urging electoral outcomes but instead appealed to the collective consciousness of the nation. She stressed that the Opposition INDIA bloc represents not merely a political entity but embodies the spirit of India itself, resonating with the hearts of its people.

Reading out six guarantees drafted by Arvind Kejriwal during his incarceration, Sunita outlined a vision for a better India:
1. Ensuring uninterrupted power supply nationwide.
2. Providing free electricity to the underprivileged across the country.
3. Establishing quality schools in every village for comprehensive education.
4. Setting up neighborhood clinics in every village and government multi-specialty hospitals in every district.
5. Guaranteeing fair minimum support prices to farmers as per the Swaminathan report.
6. Ending historical injustice faced by the people of Delhi by granting statehood to the capital.
She pledged to fulfill these promises within a five-year timeframe, underscoring a commitment to tangible progress and socio-economic justice.
However, the backdrop to this political rally was the ongoing custody of Arvind Kejriwal, his former deputy Manish Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over alleged involvement in money laundering linked to the now-defunct Delhi liquor policy. This context lent a sense of urgency and defiance to Sunita Kejriwal’s address, as she accused the central government of wielding investigative agencies as political weapons to suppress dissent and opposition.
The Opposition leaders present at the rally echoed similar sentiments, vehemently criticizing what they perceived as the BJP’s misuse of central agencies such as the ED, CBI, and income tax department. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti defended Arvind Kejriwal’s track record, highlighting his contributions to education and governance in Delhi. The presence of Kalpana Soren, wife of jailed former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, further underscored the solidarity among opposition leaders facing legal battles.
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray seized the opportunity to attack the BJP over the electoral bonds issue, dubbing the ruling party as the “Bhrasht Janata Party” and alleging widespread corruption within its ranks. His words resonated with the crowd, reflecting growing disillusionment with the incumbent government’s integrity.
In response, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi dismissed the rally as a façade to shield dynastic families in politics, accusing it of prioritizing nepotism over the nation’s welfare. He labeled it the “Parivar bachao, bhrashtachar chhupao” (Save the family, conceal corruption) rally, insinuating that the opposition’s agenda was self-serving rather than altruistic.
